CREATIVITY-ES Art Department

I work in the Elementary School art department. I help run and facilitate workshops for elementary students, taking on a leadership role. Our goal was to plan and set up the Elementary School art exhibition. I assist Ms. Elleby in various tasks that she needs done around the art room. This year, i helped design the elementary school art exhibition and helped put together the exhibition. I have designed and painted several banners, including the banners used for the KSPCA Dog Walk in Karura forest. I have made posters, designed objects to be put up in the exhibit, and do anything else Ms. Elleby needs done for her classes. I worked really hard and assist Ms. Elleby in any way that i could. We achieved our goal and the exhibition was set up and great. It was such a success and a really great experience. I learn how to be a leader in and work with others. I learn a great work ethic and how to be readily available to help. I gained several art skills as well as other skills that can help me in my life. I really love doing art, i love working with Ms. Elleby, and i love working with kids. It is a really enjoyable experience and something i really love doing.

SERVICE/CREATIVITY- Dada Yangu Designs

For Dada Yangu Designs, I designed some tags for eco-friendly bags that a local group is making and selling. Dada Yangu is the designer of the bag and several other items that they are selling. I was also asked to design a poster for the group, showing the women that are working. I enjoyed using my creative skills to help a good cause and had fun making these tags.

CREATIVITY: Friends of Marich Poster

For the PTO picnic, held a few weeks ago, the Friends of Marich used the opportunity to raise awareness and ask for donations. I designed a poster for the occasion. I was given several photos from last year's class trip to Marich and used Pages on my computer to put the photos together and create a simple poster to show to the public that portrayed the essence of Friends of Marich. The poster was used to help us raise awareness among the ISK community. I was more than happy use my art skills and try put together a usable poster.

SERVICE: Friends of Marich

I am part of a group called Friends of Marich. We are a service-based organization that works with the community of Marich up north in Kenya. Last year, the group went on a class trip up to the region of Marich and built a bridge with funds raised. They also installed the first playground the region had ever seen. Some member of the team even shared that once that they had installed the playground, they saw local kids that had no idea what to do with any of the equipment. We had to show them how to swing on the swing and use the monkey bars and such. Last year, the group was a great success and I look forward to being part of this when we go yet another year of being very successful. I am a secretary in the group, and that involves me taking attendance, writing notes from the meetings, noting changes, thoughts, ideas, and writing the roles of all the members of the club. For the group, I made a poster (as shown) and worked at the 2011 ISK Food Fair. I have done lots of fundraising and raising awareness: getting sponsorship for the group, selling raffle tickets for the events we held throughout the year, including the concert and the golf tournament. We set goals to earn lots of money for the people of Marich and we reached those goals through hard work and dedication. We experienced lots of difficulties in terms of advertising, and group participation, but we overcame those difficulties and were extremely successful. I am very much enjoying being part of this wonderful group and look forward to supporting the people of Marich. I think this is a great activity that works for a really good cause and i feel i am learning a lot about charity groups and participation and how to be part of a group. I love helping a good cause and am glad to be part of this group.

ACTION: Varsity ISSEA Soccer

I am not only on the varsity girls basketball team, but I am also on the ISSEA girls Soccer team this season. Last year, we traveled to Uganda and went undefeated through the group rounds, but unfortunately did not win. This year, we will be traveling to Zambia and I am so looking forward to another wonderful ISSEA tournament. Soccer is a sport that I love doing. It is something that I have done for a very long time and I am very passionate about it. Every season, i come out to improve and get better. I aim to be the best I can be and this season is no different. Due to my knee injury, I am having difficulties performing to my full potential, but I try my best and do what I can. As long as I am playing, I am happy. I do not want my knees to get in the way of my success as a soccer player and as an athlete. We practice three times a week: monday, wednesday, and friday morning. Being on this team is a huge commitment, but is something I am more than happy to be doing. I am so excited for a great ISSEA and can't wait to see what the team has to offer and show the other International Schools.

ACTION: Varsity/ISSEA Basketball

I am on the girls inter school varsity basketball this season at ISK. We are about mid-way through the season and I am really having an amazing time being on the team. I was on the team last year, as well as on the ISSEA team, with which we traveled to Addis Ababa and won the championship. We defended our title for the fourth year running and being part of the was the most wonderful experience ever and is something I am thoroughly grateful for. This year, I hope to continue to build and enhance my skills as a basketball player and athlete. Basketball is an activity that I absolutely love taking part in and being part of this team is something very important to me. Although I have knee injuries, I continue to try my hardest on the team and push myself to the best of my abilities as I am also taking part in another varsity sport. Keeping myself active and fit is very important to me and very much enjoy keeping myself busy with all my sports. It creates a healthy mindset and allows me time during the day when I can vent any anger or stress I have and just forget everything. I look forward to a wonderful season ahead and building up to play our arch rivals, RVA, and then to our Paris trip! We will be traveling to Paris in December to play the American School of Paris and to participate in a tournament in Brussels. It will be the trip of a lifetime and I am so excited to have an opportunity to travel to such a wonderful place to do something I love doing. I look forward to see what this season brings and what I have to offer :)
