SERVICE: Friends of Marich

I am part of a group called Friends of Marich. We are a service-based organization that works with the community of Marich up north in Kenya. Last year, the group went on a class trip up to the region of Marich and built a bridge with funds raised. They also installed the first playground the region had ever seen. Some member of the team even shared that once that they had installed the playground, they saw local kids that had no idea what to do with any of the equipment. We had to show them how to swing on the swing and use the monkey bars and such. Last year, the group was a great success and I look forward to being part of this when we go yet another year of being very successful. I am a secretary in the group, and that involves me taking attendance, writing notes from the meetings, noting changes, thoughts, ideas, and writing the roles of all the members of the club. For the group, I made a poster (as shown) and worked at the 2011 ISK Food Fair. I have done lots of fundraising and raising awareness: getting sponsorship for the group, selling raffle tickets for the events we held throughout the year, including the concert and the golf tournament. We set goals to earn lots of money for the people of Marich and we reached those goals through hard work and dedication. We experienced lots of difficulties in terms of advertising, and group participation, but we overcame those difficulties and were extremely successful. I am very much enjoying being part of this wonderful group and look forward to supporting the people of Marich. I think this is a great activity that works for a really good cause and i feel i am learning a lot about charity groups and participation and how to be part of a group. I love helping a good cause and am glad to be part of this group.
